500 characters. That is the most one Threads post can hold. Spaces, line breaks, links and hashtags all count toward it.
What a Threads post can be
- Text only. Threads is the one platform in sprkly that needs no photo or video.
- Text with up to 20 photos.
- Text with one video.
- Text with a link. Links are allowed.
Photo carousels
- Add 2 to 20 photos. sprkly posts them all as one carousel.
- They go out in the order you set.
- Over 20? Only the first 20 go out.
- Photos and a video in one post? Only the first photo goes out. Post the video on its own.
Hashtags
- Threads takes one topic tag per post. Extra #tags post as plain text.
What happens if you go over
- Threads refuses a post over 500 characters.
- sprkly does not cut your text for you. You would not see what was lost.
- So trim it before it is due.
How Compose helps
- Compose counts your caption as you type.
- One caption shared by several platforms uses the tightest limit.
- So when Threads is picked with Instagram, the counter shows 500, not 2,200.
- It turns amber near the limit and red when you are over. It never blocks the Schedule button.
Long on Instagram, short on Threads
- You can give Threads its own caption in the same post.
- Keep the long version for Instagram, at up to 2,200 characters.
- Threads reads best short and chatty anyway.
A note on numbers
- Threads does not share any numbers with sprkly yet.
- You can still post there. Those posts just do not change your Analytics page.
Do it in sprkly: In Compose, pick your Threads account, open the Threads box under the main caption, and write a version that fits in 500.
